The Ash Twin Project is a massive time-loop device built by the Nomai, powered specifically by the supernova of the sun. It was designed to send information 22 minutes back in time to locate the Eye of the Universe. The Nomai who studied the Quantum Moon left skeletons at its South Pole, not near a crater, and those skeletons belong to specific named Nomai. The Ghost Matter disaster was not instantaneous; the Nomai died gradually as the deadly substance spread after the Interloper's core ruptured.

In Their Own Story

The Fw 190 was well-liked by its pilots. Some of the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter aces claimed many of their kills while flying it, including Otto Kittel, Walter Nowotny, and Erich Rudorffer. The Fw 190 had greater firepower than the Bf 109, and at low to medium altitude, superior manoeuvrability in the opinion of German pilots who flew both fighters. It was regarded as one of the best fighter planes of World War II. The design philosophy behind the Fw 190 was shaped by Kurt Tank's experiences in World War I, where he served in the cavalry and infantry. He wanted an aircraft that could operate from ill-prepared front-line airfields, be flown and maintained by men with only short training, and absorb a reasonable amount of battle damage. Tank described the Fw 190 as a 'Dienstpferd' (cavalry horse), not a racehorse like the Bf 109 or Spitfire.

Reader's Guide

The Fw 190's development began in autumn 1937 when the RLM sent out a new tender for a fighter to fight alongside the Bf 109. Kurt Tank responded with designs, most powered by a liquid-cooled inline engine, but the Ministry's interest was aroused only when a design using the air-cooled, 14-cylinder BMW 139 radial engine was presented. This design did not compete with the inline-powered Bf 109 for Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines. Tank introduced a refined cowling concept: an oversized propeller spinner with the same outside diameter as the engine, directing airflow through a small gap in the front of the cowl to cool the cylinder heads. The eventual choice of the BMW 801 radial brought a BMW-designed cowling system integrating an annular oil cooler core behind a fan, which reduced drag, warmed oil during starting, and provided cooling even when parked. The Fw 190's wide-tracked, inwards-retracting landing gear was designed to withstand a sink rate of 4.5 metres per second (15 ft/s; 890 ft/min), double the usual strength factor, and produced better ground handling than the Bf 109.
